...Your Satisfaction is Our Priority...
Do you have a vintage amp, preamp, or other equipment that needs REBUILT, RESTORED, REPAIRED, or SERVICED?
FROTRONICS is here for your total rebuilds, restorations, repairs, and service needs.
We specialize in SAE AMPS & PREAMPS, but do work on McINTOSH, MARANTZ, CROWN, GAS, DENON, CARVER, HAFLER, DYNACO, and other vintage solid state brands and devices.
FROTRONICS also does general electronic repairs.
In our rebuilds, restorations, and repairs we use new state of the art components, when available, which are superior over older components. We do have new parts, some original parts, NOS, and used parts that we can use for repairs. This way anything you bring to us will be returned to you in excellent working condition.
All rebuilds, restorations, and repairs are burnt in and tested before being returned to you to check for proper operation and sound quality.
Feel free to contact us via email with any questions or electronic repairs you may have.
We also have units FOR SALE. Please contact us for available units and pricing.
PLEASE NOTE: We do work on op-amp devices, but due to not having a good source for some IC chips, the unavailability, and/or unreliability of these chips in the older devices we need to have the unit here to see if we can obtain a reliable chip.
...THIS IS OUR EXPERTISE AND HOBBY...
OVER 60 YEARS OF ELECTRONICS EXPERIENCE
FROTRONICS was established in 1990 by Jeff Grunda and with senior technician Jeff Janezic our mission is to rebuild, restore, repair, or service your vintage solid state SAE amps & preamps, stereo receivers, along with other TOP BRAND equipment to working condition again. We also work on other electronic equipment and devices. Our passion for excellence is what inspired us to open up our shop, and continues to this day. We're driven by our dedication to be the best Electronics Repair and Service Shop, and know our customers feel and hear the difference.
We smile with pride every time we return your newly Rebuilt, Restored, or Repaired item to you. It means we have done our job right.
All of our rebuilds, restorations, and repairs are completed with meticulous detail, resulting in a product that is as good as new and will give you 40+ years of listening enjoyment.
Turn around times vary greatly depending on if it is a simple repair to major rebuild/restoration, the availability of parts, and the number of units on the bench before your unit. We do try to keep a lot of parts in stock, but can not stock everything. Please look at our service explanation below for more information or email us to learn more about our shop or step by step processes.

TOTAL REBUILDS and RESTORATIONS
Amplifiers are not simple recaps and replacements of a few parts. Amplifier units are totally disassembled and cleaned. All semiconductor devices are removed and replaced with new modern devices which are superior and more reliable than there older components. New Nichicon electrolytic caps, new WIMA film capacitors when available, new metal film resistors, new power capacitors, new gold plated input jacks and gold plated output binding posts (on most units), new Bourns trim-pots on boards, slider and rotary pots cleaned and lubricated. Complete check of solder joints. Other small components are changed as needed. Components are matched as close as possible out of large lots. We use only audio grade components. Wirewound resistors are changed as needed. Plus much more...
Our bench test equipment is designed so we can monitor both channels at the same time. Very few places are set up or have the proper equipment to do this. This way both channels can be run into dummy loads and observed at the same time. We drive the amp hard for 30 minutes to allow it to heat up and to make sure there are no signs of distress. The units are aloud to cool down and during this process we observe the bias readings to make sure they stay steady throughout the temperature range. We also make sure all units are within specs and all settings are rechecked. THD is also monitored and recorded thru the process from 20hz -20Khz.
All units are tested, adjusted, and burned in for at least 4 hrs. They are then listened to in order to verify sound quality and operation.
Rarely do we change ceramic disc or small polyester capacitors as these sometimes can change the sound. They are changed if bad or sometimes in total rebuilds/restorations to improve sound quality.
Amplifier rebuilds will come with a certificate that your unit meets all specifications of quality and performance set by FROTRONICS during testing before being returned to you.
Please see Special Notes below for additional information.
Preamp rebuilds have all electrolytic caps replaced. All pots and switches are cleaned and lubricated. Transistors are replaced if they are bad and available. We can upgrade resistors to modern metal film if desired. Some carbon composite resistors are changed to metal film.
........WARRANTY of 2 YEARS ON COMPLETE REBUILDS and RESTORATIONS........
NOTE: The warranty does not cover, misuse, abuse, wrongly hooking up the unit, tampering with the unit, plugging or unplugging cables while unit is powered up, and/or power surges, etc...
Custom Repairs
We can repair most devices and most will not carry a warranty. This is due to other components that may be on there way out that are not detectable at time of inspection. We will let you know if a warranty applies.
All units must be cleaned before any repair and testing. A bench charge will apply to all devices, but will be applied to a repair if you decide to have it fixed. We will replace whatever components that were bad or that you want us to replace and we will make sure the unit is operational, but remember this is only a BAND-AID FIX. We cannot guarantee that the repairs will put the unit back within tolerances if only replacing parts that went bad. Usually when certain components go bad others usually follow. The unit could last for months without another problem or they could go the next time you use the unit. Remember these units are old and components have dried up, deteriorated, or have gone out of tolerance. This is why we recommend a total rebuild if you want the devices to last with a guarantee. All units will be tested for operation and short burn in before being returned.
It is assumed that the device you send us HAS NOT been changed, altered, disassembled, missing parts, or modified in any way by someone. Additional charges will apply for extra time spent UNDOING such mods, reassembling, or trying to obtain missing parts before any repairs begin.

SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS
Customer is responsible for the shipping cost both ways.
We have experienced many shipping mishaps and damage to units do to insufficient packaging. Examples are holes poked in the box damaging the unit, dropped boxes which damages faceplates, chassis, and VU meters. This is why you need an extra layer of protection for the unit. So Please Take Note of this how to package properly for shipping to us:
1-wrap your item in a garbage bag... 2-use multiple layers of bubble wrap around the item... 3-place this in a box and make sure the unit can not move around... 4-include a paper with a RMA # that we will give you, your name, address, phone number, make, model, and serial number. Please sign so you are assured you get back the unit you sent us. 5-use additional bubble wrap around this box, foam peanuts, or use 2" of styrofoam around this box which is put into another box (make sure this is a HEAVY DUTY BOX), with no movement, to avoid any damage to the unit... 6-make sure you mark "DO NOT DROP FRAGILE" all over the outer box... 7-also mark top of box "THIS SIDE UP"... We do not want you to have anymore damage to the item than what it already has.
If you have the original packaging material and box place the unit in there and add additional protection around it and place it inside another heavy duty box with the remainder of the steps from above.
NOTES: An item just bubble wrapped or air bagged and placed in a box will not protect it...It needs to be WRAPPED and DOUBLE BOXED.
If you have a shipping account with a shipper you can use your account if you so desire for shipping both ways.
If the item is not packaged properly to us there will be an additional charge for proper packaging on return to eliminate any chance of damage to the unit.
"FROTRONICS is not responsible for any damage to the unit in shipping."
PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT... IT ONLY COST A FEW EXTRA $ TO PACKAGE IT CORRECTLY...
